Taking the right decision during a disaster is challenging. Decision makers have to rely on actual information and assess the impact of possible scenarios. Disaster management aims to reduce the level of uncertainty in the decision making process.
HKV supports disaster managers by
- Developing tools such as ‘continuous insights’. The instrument monitors and analyses actual flood risk and identifies weak spots in flood defense systems.
- Developing scenarios for disaster management (e.g. failure of dams and identify the area to be warned and whether evacuation is a sensible strategy)
- Contributing to European research projects such as DRIVER (driver-project.eu) and eVACUATE (evacuate.eu)
