The Ocean Cleanup, the Dutch non-profit organization developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic, unveiled last Saturday its invention to prevent the unrelenting flow of plastic pollution into the world’s oceans. The Interceptor™, under development by The Ocean Cleanup since 2015, complements the organization’s founding mission by attacking the flow of plastic garbage at its source, the world’s vast network of rivers.
HKV is partner of The Ocean Cleanup, and we fully support the mission of cleaning the world’s oceans. To help reduce emissions of plastics from rivers into the ocean we conducted experiments and provided advice on river transport processes, we mapped plastic loads from the world’s rivers, and helped in identifying suitable river waste collection sites. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms15611
