Although rivers, lakes and oceans are often the primary source of flood waters, they are also a major source of prosperity and development. Management strategies like “Room for the River” and the construction of flood defences like dykes and storm surge barriers can help to reduce the threat of floods. Planning and development of these strategies and infrastructure must be done carefully to minimise disruption to shipping, recreation, the environment and other services. We help to ensure that proposed plans and developments will actually meet desired objectives. To this end, we have an extensive knowledge of hydraulics and morphology readily available.
In June 2018 our colleague Fredrik Huthoff was in Myanmar as part of an Arcadis-led project to help reduce flood risk and erosion threats along a section of the Ayeyarwady river near the city of Nyaungdon. Read more
On the 8th and 9th of February 2018 the Regional Steering Committee Meeting for the Oti Flood Hazard Assessment project convened for the last time at the Sarakawa hotel in Lomé, Togo. Since the end of 2016, HKV was involved in this World Bank financed project. Read more
