In densely populated areas, water and people meet. Especially in these areas, the importance of effective water management, focused on sustainability and quality of the environment, is immense. Spatial developments as well as climate developments need to be taken into account as these lead to changing boundary conditions.
What kind of precipitation do we take into account? Where is rainfall expected and how is the water drained? What do we expect from measures in urban and rural areas, where is the risk minimal? And how do we safeguard, in summers with changing rainfall events with spikes, the availability of enough water of sufficient quality in dry periods?
The last week of October 2015 our colleagues Freek Huthoff en Susanne Groot delivered a training at the Instituto Superior Politecnico de Gaza (ISPG) in Chokwe, Mozambique. They introduced teachers, students and local water authorities in modern flood forecasting and management techniques. Read more
