Although rivers, lakes and oceans are often the primary source of flood waters, they are also a major source of prosperity and development. Management strategies like “Room for the River” and the construction of flood defences like dykes and storm surge barriers can help to reduce the threat of floods. Planning and development of these strategies and infrastructure must be done carefully to minimise disruption to shipping, recreation, the environment and other services. We help to ensure that proposed plans and developments will actually meet desired objectives. To this end, we have an extensive knowledge of hydraulics and morphology readily available.

Between 2000 – 2010, floods along the White Volta were an almost recurrent annual phenomenon. The flood seasons between 2007 and 2010 rank 1st , 4th, 7th and 8th highest in the White Volta since 1936. These floods affect development and livelihoods in the three northern regions of Ghana. Read more
