HKV presents app ‘Überschwemm Ich?’ on trade mission to Germany

On behalf of HKV Bas Kolen and Hermjan Barneveld have been present at the economic mission to the German federal states of Saksen, Saksen-Anhalt and Thüringen under the direction of Minister Ploumen. For this trade mission HKV has developed the app ‘ÜberschwemmIch?’, a German version of the Dutch app ‘Overstroom ik?’, based on data of the EU Flood Directive. One of the highlights during the mission has been our presentation for the Dutch King and Queen, who were on a work visit to the German federal states, Minister Schultz, and a German delegation. Read more

Outcomes of the EU-project ENHANCE

ENHANCE is an EU-funded research consortium consisting of 24 knowledge institutes and SMEs from 11 countries. From 2012 to 2016 the consortium studied ten cases on risk reduction of catastrophic events and developed risks assessment tools to enhance society’s resilience to natural disasters. The cases span a broad range of hazards and impacts, ranging from alpine hazards impacting railway transport to volcanic eruptions impacting air transport. The project has shown that managing risks by means of stakeholder partnerships and widening the risk information basis are critical for effective risk reduction. Read more


HKV started the implementation of the Oti Flood Risk Hazard Assessment project

HKV started the implementation of the Oti Flood Risk Hazard Assessment project

HKV has recently been appointed by the World Bank to implement the Oti Flood Risk Hazard Assessment project. The project aims to build capacity at water authorities in Ghana and Togo, to determine the flood risk, the effectiveness of flood risk mitigation measures, both structural and non-structural, as well as to establish a flood early warning system. The assignment includes data collection, a field survey, modelling, the installation of a transboundary early warning system and training of national staff. Read more
